Thomas R. Aylesbury

Thomas R. Aylesbury, 86, of Marblehead, Massachusetts passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on September 10, 2025.

Tom was born on March 13, 1939, in Boston, and raised in Revere, Massachusetts. He attended Immaculate Conception High School – Revere MA, and Brewster Academy in Maine. He attended and received a Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering from Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 1962. Immediately following graduation, Tom spent his early 20's shipping out on many types of vessels. Tom worked in management at Eversource, formally known as Boston Edison, until retirement. After retirement, Tom went back to working as an engineer on the casino boats out of Salem, MA.

Tom's main passion in his life was his family. Tom was very involved in his children's and grandchildren's lives and athletic endeavors. Other passions of Tom's include sailing on his restored wooden sailboat, Luna with his wife, antique restoration, and his cottage in Damariscotta, Maine.

Tom is survived by his wife Shiela Aylesbury of Marblehead, MA; two children, Marialena Akdag and her husband Kirk Akdag of Marblehead, MA, and Thomas Aylesbury of Pemaquid, ME; Two grandchildren, Emmarose Hughes and her Husband Nolan Hughes of North Reading, MA, Lucas Winder and his girlfriend Nicole Lima of Marblehead, MA; his sister Jane Cavanagh and late husband John Cavanagh of Hanover, MA. Tom is predeceased by the late Roderick and Rose Candela Aylesbury and his brother Robert Aylesbury.

Tom should always be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.

A Funeral Mass will be held at the Star of the Sea Church in Marblehead on Monday, September 15 at 11am, followed by a burial at Star of the Sea Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass from 9:30-10:30 at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal Street, Salem. Family invites relatives and friends to The Landing Restaurant in Marblehead following the services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Massachusetts Maritime Academy in the name of Thomas Aylesbury.
