Betty Ann Simonson, 87, of Black River Falls, formerly of Taylor, died on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse after a brief illness.
Betty was born on April 7, 1937, at home in Trump Coulee, rural Blair, to Goodwin and Agnes (Strand) Nelson. She was baptized and confirmed at Trempealeau Valley Church.
She graduated from Taylor High School in 1955 and lived in Milwaukee for a year working as a nanny.
Betty married Leonard W. Simonson on September 8, 1956, in Trempealeau Valley Lutheran Church in rural Taylor.
Leonard and Betty operated a dairy farm in Springfield until their retirement. In retirement, they enjoyed traveling by train throughout the United States. She enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with her grandchildren, cooking, baking, and making lefse, and was especially known for her homemade donuts.
In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard and brothers, Gordon and Wayne Nelson and sister, Joyce Joten.
Betty is survived by her two daughters, Dawn (Jim) Olson and Wanda (David) Hutchings; six grandchildren, Travis (Katherine) Dolesy, Justin (Erin) Dolesy, Jesse (Jessica) Lien, Joel Johnson Jr., Cole (Marie) Johnson, and Brittany (John) Dissmore; 13 great-grandchildren, Jordan, Tre, Kaitlin, Rogan, Blake, Preston, Lexi, Macey, Cooper, Cashton, Gavin, Sawyer, and Lilli; brother, Roger (Lola) Nelson; in-laws, Phila Nelson, Dorothy Nelson, and Johnny Joten.
The funeral service for Betty will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Taylor Lutheran Church. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home on Friday, June 28, 2024. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow the service in Woodlawn Cemetery in Taylor.
