Betty Joyce Springstead, age 93 of Rockwood, passed away July 18, 2025.
Born December 31, 1931 in Pitsfield Township, Betty was the daughter of Theodore and Wilda (Croyle) Edson. A graduate of Ypsilanti High School, she married Jack Springstead on December 9, 1977. Sadly he preceded her in death June 14, 2006. A dedicated homemaker, Betty worked at Holister Hardware in the early 70’s before starting a 17 year career with the Gibraltar School District in food service where she eventually retired. She lived in the same house on Huron River Drive for 72 years before moving to Rosetta’s Bella Casa Nursing Facility in March of 2024. Betty was a member of the Rockwood First Congregational Church and its Women’s Fellowship. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society-Rockwood Red Rockers. She and Jack spent a great deal of time at their cabin on Jose Lake near South Branch with their Golden Retriever “Belle”. Betty enjoyed quilting and crafting and painting amazing landscapes, but her most treasured times were those spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Betty leaves to cherish her memory her children: Michael (Joan) Gerbo, Rudolph Gerbo Jr.; step sons: John (Wanda) Srpingstead, Andrew (Bonnie) Springstead and Matthew (Brenda) Srpingstead; 20 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Vickie Boteler; a step son Thomas (Rose) Springstead; 2 grandchildren, a sister Evelyn Moran and brother Richard Edson
