Mrs. Betty Lou Handy Tharpe, age 95 of Advance, passed away Monday, August 19, 2024 at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. She was born May 23, 1929 in Mecklenburg county to the late Robert and Stella Blackburn Handy. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Tharpe, Sr. Surviving are two sons, Marty Tharpe, Jr. of Advance and Craig Tharpe of Pfafftown; three grandsons, Tii Tharpe, III, Jacob Tharpe and Tucker Tharpe and wife Cayce; two great grandsons, Marty Tharpe IV and Sullivan Tharpe; one sister, Janice Handy and two special former daughters-in-law, Dare Smith Tharpe and Terry Woodall Ramsbotham; A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel with Chaplain Mark Brown officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mountain Valley Hospice in memory of Betty Tharpe. Online condolences may be made to www.hayworth-miller.com
