Mueller Funeral Home - MasonBetty Mae (Mirzalli) Vermejan, age 88, of Monroe, OH, formerly of Hessville, IN, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, in Monroe, Ohio. Born on November 27, 1936, in Lake County, IN, Betty was a beloved mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend who embraced life with an unyielding love for her family, creating a legacy that will forever echo through the generations.
Family was the center of Betty’s universe. She dedicated her life to nurturing her loved ones, embodying the essence of a devoted mother and grandmother. Her children, Alexander E. Vermejan (Ellen), Christopher B. Vermejan (Kimberly), and Kathryn L. Stark (Paul), were always her proudest accomplishments.
Betty cherished her role as a grandmother to Alexander D. Vermejan (Kerri), Adam M. Vermejan (Amanda), Christopher Vermejan, Bradley A. Stark, Curtis A. Stark (Tara), and Rachel L. Stark (Fiancée, Ethan Cornwell). Each grandchild held a special place in her heart, and she delighted in witnessing their lives unfold. One of our family’s fondest memories is when grandma and grandpa took their grandkids to K-Mart to pick-out a toy. Another is when she would school her grandkids playing Nintendo games, especially Donkey Kong and Stampede. As her family continued to grow, she extended her affections to her great-grandchildren: Noah, Elijah, Chloe, and Sloane, who brought her immeasurable joy.
Betty’s home was a haven of warmth and laughter, especially during the holidays when she adorned her space with decorations and homemade Christmas ornaments that brought the spirit of the season to life. It was during these times that her home became a gathering place, where memories were made, laughter was shared, and love was abundant. Her family continues her traditions by making her favorite desserts, including pineapple upside down cake and chocolate krispies, cooking her favorite meals, such as pork tacos, chicken dumplings, and chicken rice, and also by decorating for the holidays. Betty’s family continues to pay homage to her cultural heritage when repeating her favorite Hungarian expression, “Yoi–Yoi–Yoi Istenem.”
A spirited woman with a welcoming personality, Betty had an innate ability to connect with others. Her front porch in Mount Pleasant became a favorite spot for neighbors, a place where conversations flowed freely and friendships blossomed. Betty was also known for her thoughtfulness; she volunteered her time at the Mount Pleasant Treasure Barn, was always willing to lend a helping hand or offer a kind word and never wanting to inconvenience anyone. Her children’s friends often became part of the family, each carrying cherished memories of how Betty touched their lives.
Betty’s creativity and artistic flair shone through in her hobbies. She found solace in her home, where she spent countless hours crafting, embellishing items, and creating holiday wreaths, each one telling a story. She was a stay-at-home mom heavily involved in her children’s PTO back in the day. Later in life, she entered the workforce as a temporary staffing agent and office manager. She left a lasting impact on everyone around her.
Though Betty's journey has come to an end, her legacy of family and love will endure. She is survived by her family mentioned above, brother-in-law Terry Schwartz, brother-in-law Charles Vermejan, and many nieces and nephews. Betty is reunited in eternal peace with her husband, Alexander Vermejan, Jr., her parents, Emam and Helen (nee Szabo) Mirzalli, and her beloved sisters and brothers-in-law: Evelyn Fusner, Joan and Joseph Kartz, Leila and George Vrahoretis, Mary Lynn and Vernon Guzek, Kathryn Schwartz, Steve and Marie Vermejan, Marvela Vermejan, and Ken and Margaret Sertic.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, caregivers, and staff at Ohio Living Mount Pleasant for the unwavering support and love they provided to Betty and the Vermejan family over the past year.
As we remember Betty, let us carry forward the values she held dear: the importance of family, the joy of togetherness, and the beauty of a life well-lived. Her spirit will continue to illuminate our lives, reminding us of the love that binds us all.
A Celebration of Betty's Life will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, with visitation at 11:00am and Prayer Service at noon at Ohio Living Mount Pleasant Chapel, 225 Britton Lane, Monroe, OH 45050.
