Betty Whalen, 87, of Stevens Point, died Friday, August 29, 2025, at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids with family by her side.
Betty was born on October 12, 1937, in the Town of Little Wolf, in Waupaca County, to Francis and Evelyn (Thoma) Bozile. She graduated from Manawa High School in 1955. On January 9, 1957, she married George Whalen. The couple lived in Appleton for several years before moving to Stevens Point in 1964. He preceded her in death in 2013.
Besides being a housewife and mother, Betty held several part-time jobs over the years including working at K-Mart for over seven years. Also, she was an election poll worker for the city of Stevens Point for many years.
Faith was so important to Betty. She was a member of St. Stanislaus/Holy Spirit Parish for over 61 years where she volunteered in several roles. She especially enjoyed counting the weekly parish collections for more than 15 years. She was also a member of the parish Rosary Society and participated in the parish Prayer Chain.
Betty was an avid bridge player, participating in several clubs. She also enjoyed playing board games and other card games, painting ceramics, working on jigsaw puzzles, reading, watching game shows, decorating for the holidays and spending time with family and friends. Betty was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor.
Betty is survived by her four children: James, of Neenah; Richard, of Plover; David, of Sussex, and Susan, of Stevens Point. She is also survived by three granddaughters: Aleesha, Bobbie and Caitlin; daughter-in-law, Betty; and several cousins. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Howard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Holy Spirit Parish - 2151 Stanley Street, Stevens Point. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Burial will follow at Guardian Angel Cemetery in Stevens Point.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and other staff at Aspirus Wausau and Aspirus Riverview Hospitals for their outstanding care during the past few weeks.
"I have fought the good fight; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith."
