Mrs. Betty Sue Woodham

Betty Sue Woodham, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 20th, 2025.
She was born December 9th, 1942, to Earl and L B Smith. She grew up on Obrig Ave. where she could talk to Marshall County High School (Class of 1961), Sorters Grocery, the Lake Theater, and her father's used car business.
She married James Lee Woodham and settled with her family in the Sims Community. While her 3 children were small, she worked from home as a seamstress, making clothes for children and women. In August 1983 she began working as a Homemaker with the Department of Human Resources foster children. She retired from there in May 2004 after 21 years, to take care of her aging father. She always had a special heart for children in need.
She loved the Lord and instilled a love of Jesus Christ into her children and grandchildren. She is a member of Pleasant Hill Church, but she also attended Welcome Bethel Church that her father helped establish and Guntersville First Baptist where her children and grandchildren are members.
She loved all things growing in nature and would plant trees and flowers around her home that she named for the people she loved. Her crazy sense of adventure and humor will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her daughters Susan Whitaker (Torrey) and Sharon Sheree Woodham. Her three grandchildren, Chloe Hackney (Foster), Payton Whitaker (John O'Brien), Ethan Whitaker (Katelyn) and her sweet precious great grandsons, Whit Hackney and Jack Henry Whitaker. Also, Cledus Earl, her furry granddog.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and L B Smith; husband, James Lee Woodham; brother, Noal Smith; her two sons, infant Stanley James Earl Woodham and Phillip Tyrone Buchanan.
Flowers will be appreciated but donations to her favorite charities, Shepherds Cove Hospice and CASA/CAJA of Marshall Co., are best.
Services will be on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at Guntersville Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 12 - 2 with the funeral service starting at 2pm. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Methodist Church in Horton.
