Jo Bettye Barton Mathis, 98, of Fairhope, Alabama and formerly of Rome passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, December 30, 2025.
A native of Rome, Bettye was born on Monday, February 21, 1927. She was the second of four daughters born to Thomas Howard Barton and Bonnie Keener Barton. She was a graduate of Rome High School and worked with Anchor Duck Mills. Champion Garment Company, and prior to retirement, managed the guest cottages at Berry College, She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lindale.
Bettye was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, and her husband George Warren Mathis.
Survivors include her two children: Howard Mathis of Warner Robins GA and Salli (Mike) Beasley of Fairhope, AL; Three grandchildren Laura Mathis. Bonne Cecil, and Perry Beasley. Six great grandchildren, Ezra, Eden, Oliver, and Zolie Cecil and Magnolia and Junie Beasley also survive.
Graveside funeral and interment services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 3, 2026 at East View Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service.
