BETTYE MILLER Obituary

Nichols MillerJuly 8, 1920 - Sep 13, 2012 OKLAHOMA CITY Bettye Kathryn Nichols Miller passed away on September 13, 2012, in Eugene, Oregon. She was born to Luther Thomas Nichols & Lola Alice Burns Nichols in Fort Smith, Arkansas, on July 8, 1920. Bettye was a graduate of Classen High School and attended the Oklahoma College for Women and Oklahoma State University. She taught at business schools in Oklahoma City, but most of her professional life was spent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, where she began work as a stenographer and ended her career as Supervisor of the Stenographic Pool, one of the most senior FBI positions available to women at that time. She met Lester Laverne Miller in Albuquerque in April 1945, and they were married on September 16th of that year in Oklahoma City. They were married for 65 years and had five children, Gayle Patricia Miller, who died shortly after birth; Fred Luther Miller; Dick Warren Miller; Anne Marie Miller Cook; and Paul Roy Miller. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City, where she and Les treasured the congregation and its music ministry. Bettye was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Miller; her brother, Robert Nichols; and her daughters, Anne Marie Miller Cook and Gayle Patricia Miller. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Kocher; sons, Fred, Dick and Paul; grandchildren, Joshua Gillespie Miller, Lester Carr Miller, Jessica Jordan Miller, (children of Fred and wife, Linda Gillespie Miller), Kevin Roy Miller and Alexis Joyce Leighann Miller Henderson (children of Dick and wife, Lindsey Nellie Paula Shuster Miller), Jason Lee Cook and Jacquelynn Anne Cook French (children of her daughter, Anne, and husband, Vern Lee Cook) and Gary Simer and Rodney Robertson (sons of Paul and wife, Donna Simer); and great-grandchildren, Luther Miller, Victor Miller, Julian Miller, Alexander Miller, Lucy Henderson, Ava Cook, Aidan French, Jenna French, Avery Simer, Grace Simer and Braden Robertson. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 30, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Memorial Park Cemetery Historic Chapel, 13400 N. Kelley Ave., Oklahoma City. I never knew Bettye personally, but I have been looking for her for some time now. My grandmother, Linnie Elizabeth Nichols Miller, and Bettye's grandfather, William L. Nichols, were siblings.
