Beverly Jean Cross, affectionately known as Bev, was born on December 12, 1934, in Scranton, Iowa. She passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025, at Corning Specialty Care in Corning, Iowa. Beverly dedicated much of her life to serving her community. She worked as the director of the Matura Neighborhood Center for 15 years and was employed by the Corning Police Department as a dispatcher.
Bev was a devoted member of the Church of Latter Day Saints of Lenox, Iowa. Her love for music was evident throughout her life, as she and her husband, Jesse, founded the Mt. Etna Opry. They also performed live radio shows in Marshalltown and started the Marshall County Opry. They shared a passion for music and enjoyed playing together throughout their marriage. Bev was also proud of her involvement in hosting the Annual Pie Contest and Thanksgiving suppers held at the Armory in Corning for many years.
She is survived by her son, Ricki (Barbara) Cross from Mt. Etna, IA; daughters Vicki (Larry) Nilles from Elliott, IA, Patty LaFoy from Shambaugh, and Cindy Bell of Council Bluffs, IA. Bev was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, along with 5 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and other relatives who will remember her with love.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jesse Cross in 1997, and one brother and one sister.
Visitation will be held on September 18, 2025, from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM at Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center in Corning, Iowa. There will also be a special visitation with family from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM on the same day. The funeral service will take place on September 19, 2025, at 10:30 AM, also at Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center. Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. John’s United Church of Christ, Creston, IA.
Beverly Jean Cross will be remembered for her warm spirit and lifelong dedication to her family and community.
