Beverly J. Darnell, of the Waltonwood Senior Community in Novi, formerly of Farmington and Novi, entered eternal life on Wednesday morning, February 21, 2024. She was 81.
Beverly was born December 15, 1942, in Detroit, to the late Marvin and Helen (Hardy) Auberlin. She married Dan Darnell on May 29, 1969, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Harper Woods. Sadly, Dan preceded her in death on February 9, 2021.
Bev graduated Harper Woods Regina High School and earned her bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in 1966. She dedicated her professional life to nurturing young minds and taught elementary school at various schools from 1966-1974. In 1974, she took a teaching hiatus to raise her two sons, Jason and Christopher, but returned to her profession at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School in the early 1990's and retired from Sorrows in 2000. During tax season, Bev would assist as an administrative professional at her husband's law firm, MacLean, Proppe, MacLean and Darnell, PC, in Farmington Hills.
At the core of Bev's essence was her boundless love and care. Her nurturing spirit radiated in every aspect of her life, from her role as a devoted wife to her cherished position as a loving grandma. Family meant everything to Bev, and her unwavering love created a foundation of support and joy.
Known for her hospitality, Bev found immense joy in entertaining others. Whether it was family gatherings or welcoming friends into her home, she created an atmosphere of love and togetherness. Her generosity knew no bounds, and she took delight in creating memorable moments for those around her.
In her leisure time, Bev enjoyed the simple pleasures of reading, crafting, and baking. Her culinary talents were particularly evident in the seemingly hundreds of mini loaves of banana bread she lovingly baked each season, leaving a sweet legacy that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to taste them.
The family lake house up north on Walloon Lake in Charlevoix County held a special place in Bev's heart. It was a place of cherished memories, laughter, and the joy of being surrounded by loved ones. Moreover, her love for travel, both domestic and abroad, was a passion she and Dan shared.
As we say farewell to Beverly, we celebrate the richness of her life and the profound impact she had on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will continue to inspire us all.
Surviving are two sons, Jason (Tara) and Christopher (Amy); grandchildren, Mathias and Solana Darnell, Olivia and Addison Darnell, and Griffin, Reese and Emery Baldridge; her mother-in-law, Eleanore Darnell; her niece, Lyndsay (Kevin) Sullivan; as well as a host of friends and former colleagues.
Family and friends may gather for visitation at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, downtown Farmington, on Monday, February 26, from 2-8 pm. A time of prayer and remembrances is planned for 6:30 pm.
