One of my most vivid memories of Beverly centers on her work ethic.
We at "Handyman Ministries"-a small company operating back in the beginning days of our 21st century (the early 2000s); and so-named by our son and Beverley´s son-in-law, Brent Smith-had taken on a re-roofing job in Sperry, IA, a little north of Burlington. Beverley had become a part of the crew and we were all working together on that particular project.
While I cannot recall all the details of that particular project, I do remember that Beverly was struggling with trying to remove the step-flashing (tin shingles) that were on the existing roof and up underneath the siding where a portion of the roof butted up to an existing wall. There was an overhang from the rest of the roof above, and there was very little room to work beneath that overhang.
As I recall, Beverly was trying to use one of the flat-nosed shovels to remove the existing shingles which, as always, were sandwiched between the successive courses (rows) of shingles. She was having a bit of a hard time with it. However, she doggedly pursued that task despite the great difficulty. I noted the effort and suggested that she use my flat-bar. Now, I had often taken some good-natured ribbing because that flat-bar was so used up. However, since it was worn so thin, it really became a very useful tool for being able to slip underneath stuck-together-shingles and step-flashing.
Before long we were working together on that rather long butt-up situation. During that time I got to see a side of Beverly that I had not had the opportunity to witness before. Before it was all over we had spent a good amount of time working almost shoulder-to-shoulder, and having some truly good conversation. I might even say we had a bit of "fun" in conquering that part of the roofing project; if indeed there can be any real "fun" in doing roofing work!?
I was quite impressed with this precious lady who just wouldn´t give up in the face of such adverse circumstances. Beverly showed remarkable physical and emotional stamina in that situation. Most anytime that I´ve heard her name, or happened to have seen her since, my mind usually quickly takes in that whole scene again from years ago.
She will certainly be missed by all.

I will always remember Beverly´s love for her kids and grandkids. I remember she had special nicknames for each of them, and I knew how fondly their names were spoken. We were fortunate to get to travel to Colorado Springs for Brent´s graduation from NBC. , and drive to the top of Pikes Peak. She was there at the hospital in Tulsa in 2015 always affirming her support to her kids. She lived in her own special way and was indeed a special lady.
