Esther Beverly Carrell Guffey, 81, of Higdon, AL, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 21, 2025.

Born February 19, 1944, to the late Hewdie and Esther Whitley Carrell, Beverly lived a life marked by love, devotion, and unwavering faith. She married the love of her life, Bobby Guffey, in 1962, and together they raised four daughters and shared a beautiful life until his passing in 2018.

She was a lifelong member of Higdon Free Holiness Church, where she received the Holy Ghost on June 5, 1957. Her faith was central to who she was, and her church family meant the world to her.

Known fondly as Mama Beverly, she poured her heart into her family. She was famous for her peach cobbler, buttermilk pies, tea cakes, and cornbread, and she loved to can and garden. She was also a talented seamstress. She enjoyed thrift shopping and collecting antiques. Beverly was a well-loved member of the community who never met a stranger—she would talk to anyone. Her gentle spirit and steadfast love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Anji Robinson, Gina (Jamie) Gilbert, Sonya (Daniel) Middlebrooks, and Chanda (Steven) Gillian; brothers Varnell Carrell, Verlon (Lenice) Carrell, Ronnie (Sheron) Carrell, and Vonnie (Beverly) Carrell; grandchildren Andrew (Ericka) Robinson, Zachery (Linsey) Robinson, Sarah (Brandon) Dennis, Meagan (Gabriel) Nix, Ethan (Devan) Gilbert, Brandon (Katie) Middlebrooks, Emma Middlebrooks, Elisabeth Middlebrooks, Savanah Gillian, and Chaleigh Gillian; along with 18 great-grandchildren, many extended family members, and friends who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Guffey; parents, Hewdie and Esther Carrell; siblings, Melvin Carrell, Marie Carrell, and Dorothy Holman; and son-in-law, Curtis Robinson.

Funeral services to honor Beverly’s life will be officiated by Brother Edwin Spurgeon, Brother Gabriel Nix, and Brother Jody Gray. The service will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 2:00 PM ET at Higdon Free Holiness Church. Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 12:00–9:00 PM ET and on Monday from 11:00 AM–2:00 PM ET.
