1940-2025

Beverly Ann "Susie" (Gilley) Hirter, 84, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, August 18, 2025, at her home. She was a beloved wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, aunt, and sister.

Beverly was born September 2, 1940 on Labor Day in St. Joseph to Fred and Maxine (Brott) Gilley.

Beverly grew up in St. Joseph. She graduated from Central High School in 1958.

Susie married her high school sweetheart, Louis C. Hirter, on August 29, 1959. They started life together in St. Joseph. They had three children and later moved to Hemple in 1976 and Gower in 1983. They then settled again in St. Joseph in 1996.

Susie worked at Sherwood Medical in Elwood, Kansas, before the flood for nearly 25 years. She also worked a couple years at Hallmark in Leavenworth, Kansas.

Beverly belonged to St. Paul Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband; her parents; and son-in-law, John Yantzi.

Survivors and loved by all include her children, Vicki Dowell (Kris), Rick Hirter (Diana), and Tammy Yantzi; siblings, Fred L. Gilley (Helen Jo), Steven Gilley (Sandy), and Dennis Gilley (Cole); grandchildren, Travis, Devin, Tyson, Stacey, Taci, Scott, Amanda, Kensi, Christopher, Abbey, Harrison, Carlee, Brandon, Alexandra, Darrius, Bonnie, Megan, and David; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Brooklyn, Caroline, Hadley, Hudson, Hank, Wren, Autumn, Savannah, Charli, Jett, Hayden, Emery, Lainey, Cady, Lexi, DJ, and Tsiora; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Farewell Services and Public Livestream 10:00 A.M. Monday, St. Paul Lutheran Church. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Online guest book and obituary at www.meierhoffer.com.
