Mary Elizabeth Hirter, 86, of Krugerville, TX, passed away Friday, April 18, 2025 in Sanger, TX. Mary was born December 2, 1938 in Hodgen, OK to Joe and Virginia (Turner) Rockman. Mary married Bruce Hirter in Beaumont, CA.
Mary is survived by her sons, Bob Whetsell and wife Jeanne of Georgetown, TX; Jay Whetsell and wife Jill of Krugerville, TX, her daughter Audrey Shipley and husband Ron of Krugerville, TX; six grandchildren, Jason, Jonathan, Krystal, Bobby Jr., Colton, and Ava; two great-grandchildren Avery and Lennon.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Virginia; husband, Bruce; brother, Monte Rockman; and two sisters, Reba Breese and Billie Wyatt.
In high school, Mary was the Football sweetheart and made the AllState Basketball Team. Mary went on to earn her master's degree from Harding University while raising her three young children. Working as an elementary school teacher for thirty-three years, she also spent several of those years in Chinle, Arizona on the Navajo Reservation. Mary adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, enjoyed classic country music, traveling, and her beloved Cowboys, regardless of their season.
There are many people the family would like to thank; expressing so much gratitude for all the hands that came together, the countless calls, texts, visits, and messages we've received during this difficult time.

A special thank you to the staff of Sanger House and the Heart-to-Heart Hospice care team, for all their compassion and care. They were so supportive while we navigated end-of-life events.
An additional thank you to the staff of Cedar Ridge, the staff on floor six of Medical City of Denton, and the Emergency Service Department. There were so many compassionate people on this journey with our family, and we are so grateful for these combined efforts.
