Beverly Kohlmeyer, age 85, of Huron, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2025 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron with burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Her service will be live streamed at https://www.mtcalvaryhuron.org/livestream.
Visitation, with her family present, will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2025 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron; or one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday morning. A prayer service will begin at 6:30 p.m., on Friday evening at the funeral home.
Beverly Ann Kohlmeyer, the daughter of Arthur and Elda (Schlosser) Schmaal was born on January 3, 1940 in Madison, Minnesota. Beverly and her family lived in many South Dakota towns while growing up.
Beverly met the love of her life, Leonard Kohlmeyer one Sunday after church at her parent's gas station. She later moved to Salem, Oregon. The couple was married on September 1, 1957 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Salem. Beverly joined her new husband, as they started their life together in
Huron, SD. The couple has lived in Huron ever since.
To their happy home, they added five children: Leonard Jr., Douglas, Cheryl, Marcel, and Karla. They were saddened by the death of their children, Karla in 1993 and their son Douglas in 2021.
After raising her children, Beverly worked at the Huron Plainsman in the subscription office from 1982 to 1995, Midcom from 1995-2001 and PBM in Howard from 2003-2009.
In her free time, Beverly enjoyed camping and was a member of the Rover's Camping Club, she also enjoyed researching her family history and genealogy. Spending time with her family was the most important part of her life-especially holiday get-togethers.
She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church all her married life. She was also a charter member and officer of the Huron CB Club. When her children were in school, she was involved in Washington School PTA and pre-school mothers.
Most blessed and grateful for sharing in Beverly's life are her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren;
Son Leonard Kohlmeyer, Jr., step-grandchildren: Joe Noga, Andy Battelle of Tucson, AZ and his daughter Cassandra Battelle; Steve Lujan and his children, Julio, Athena, and Steven of Los Angeles and Stasia of Denver.
Daughter-in-law Jean Kohlmeyer of Suamico, WI, and their children: Kelsie of Suamico, WI, Kaleb (Claire) of Pulaski, WI and their children Alden and Hawthrone, and Rylie (Matthew) of Arnold, MO and their child Charlie; and step-grandchildren Summer (RJ) Tilleman of Suamico, WI, and step-great-grandchildren: Aryan (Andres) Medrano and their son Liam, Peyton, and Toby, step-grandchild Samara (Andy) Frelich and step-great-grandchildren: Harley (Meghan), Lilly, Charlotte and Sawyer all of Green Bay, WI.
Daughter Cheryl (Ritchie) Schriever of Dell Rapids, SD and grandchildren: Cody (Mikaela) Breck and their daughter Bailey of Sioux Falls; Karla (Jaime) Taylor and their son Colsen of Leola, SD, and Emily (fiancé Taylor Noteboom) Breck of Sioux City, IA.
Son the Rev. Marcel (Deborah) Kohlmeyer of Tecumseh, NE and grandchildren: Gabrielle (Aarin) Dean and their daughter Eloise of Fort Wayne, IN, and Madalyn and Andrew Kohlmeyer of Tecumseh, NE.
Brother Donald Schmaal, of LaPine, OR; sister Marlys McPherson, of Iowa; sister-in-law Corinne Kohlmeyer and brother-in-law Max Kohlmeyer, both of Huron; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leonard; daughter, Karla; son, Douglas; daughters-in-law, Monrudee "Bee" and Kesakulnee "Addy" Kohlmeyer; step-granddaughter Jennifer Lujan; step great-grandson, Brandon Battelle; brother Larry Schmaal; and several of Leonard's siblings.
