Bev Maurstad, 68, passed away peacefully under compassionate care of hospice at her son's home in
Erskine, MN. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
Beverly Maurstad was born on July 22, 1957, to Maurice D. and Irene B. (Swanson) Maurstad in
Karlstad, MN. She was raised in Warren and graduated from Warren High School in 1975, earning her CNA designation that same year. In 1976, she was united in marriage to Roger Kostrzewski, and they welcomed a son, Kory, in 1979. She later married Kenneth Lubarski, and together they had her second son, Kenny, in 1981. Kenneth then served in the US Navy, and the family resided in California until 1988 before returning back to Minnesota.
Bev and her sons, Kory and Kenny, moved to Thief River Falls, where she completed her LPN in 1992 and earned her RN qualification from Northland College in 1994. She devoted 30 years to the nursing field, working in a variety of settings where she cared for patients with compassion, professionalism, and unwavering dedication. Known for her gentle bedside manner and her ability to make patients feel seen and supported, Bev touched countless lives and was respected by colleagues and families alike.
Bev enjoyed warm weather, fishing, grilling, and family gatherings- especially if they included singing karaoke. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy; she delighted in baking them chocolate cakes with her special fudge frosting and taking them on playful shopping adventures to the DG, often with her dog, Tobi, tagging along.
In her final years, Bev took great joy in spending time with her friends and family, cherishing visits, laughter, and shared memories. Whether it was enjoying simple everyday moments, attending family gatherings, or catching up with close friends, she treasured the connections that brought warmth and happiness to her life.
At the end of the day, the most important men in Bev's life were her two sons Kory and Kenny. They returned her boundless love and care in countless ways: helping her move whenever needed, setting up her favorite camper in her son Kenny's yard for many summers, and finally welcoming her into their shared home, where she peacefully passed away surrounded by family.
Bev will be remembered for always putting others first, often to her own detriment; for the encouragement and support she gave her sons and their families; and for the boundless love she showed to all creatures, great and small. Let eternal light shine upon her.
She is survived by the two greatest men in her life, her sons, Kory Lubarski and Kenny (Sharla) Lubarski; her grandchildren, Kody, Nolan, Annaleese, Shayla, and Skyler; and her brothers, Herb (Jackie) Maurstad and David (Annette) Maurstad.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Maurice and Irene; sisters, Bernice Peters Kostrzewski, Berdell Dunworth, Mary Pederson, and Betty Johnson; and nieces Sara Maurstad and Jenny Pederson.
