POLKINGHORNE, Beverly "Bev" – of Flint, formerly of Byron, age 78, died Monday, September 22, 2025, at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc. Honoring Bev's wishes, cremation will take place. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1PM on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Rev. Jeannie Genaw officiating. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Saturday from 12PM until the time of service at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the family for future designation.
Bev was born on January 18, 1947, in Flint, to the late John and Maxine (Damouth) McDowell. She graduated from Byron High School with the class of 1965 and was a data processor at SC Data for many years and a secretary at McKinnon Mooney for some time. In 1979, she married Stephen Polkinghorne, and they shared over 46 years together. Bev attended the South Flint Tabernacle Church and was an avid member of the Clio Senior Center. She enjoyed playing bingo and euchre with family and friends and loved keeping up with her favorite sports teams – the Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers. During her younger years she liked playing sports and was on the basketball team at Byron High School. Above all, Bev cherished time spent with family and friends. She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, and dear friend who will be truly missed.
Bev is forever remembered by: Children: Daniel (Rhonda) Polkinghorne, Douglas Polkinghorne, Stephen (Melissa) Polkinghorne III, Michelle (Lee) Crouch, Robin (Mark) Shutes, and Sonya (Jay) Bietila; 13 beloved grandchildren and several great grandchildren; Special Cousins: Roger Reed, Richard Reed, and Ronald Reed; Brother-in-law, Mike Blanton; Many nieces, nephews, extended family, and wonderful friends. Bev was preceded in death by: Children: Ryan Polkinghorne and Scott Polkinghorne; Parents, John and Maxine; Sisters: Joanne and Leslie.
