Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hodroff-Epstein Memorial Chapel - Minneapolis on Jan. 13, 2024.
Beverly Shacter, 85, of Maple Grove, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on January 10th, 2024 after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease. Beverly was born on September 12, 1938 in St. Paul to parents, Irving and Stella Schneider. The eldest of two children, Beverly graduated from Central High School in St. Paul. A family friend introduced Beverly to Burton Shacter, who would become her loving husband of the past 63 years. Beverly enjoyed nothing more than being a mother to her three children with Burton as they built a home in St. Louis Park. The family would move to Edina, where Beverly and Burton would reside for forty years. As her kids grew, Beverly began a career as a receptionist at Park Nicollet, a position she would enjoy for some twenty years. Beverly was an amazing mother and wife, but her true calling was as a "Grammy", as her grandchildren called her. Beverly left her job at Park Nicollet
to take full time care of her newborn granddaughter, Mara. She would later do the same for her granddaughter, Zoe and grandson Jack. Beverly and Burton's home was where family and friends always gathered for holidays and celebrations, or if someone needed support. No matter how many people filled her home, as soon as the last tupperware container was filled with a take home portion of her famous Matzo Ball Soup, Beverly started cleaning and wouldn't go to bed until the house was back to its usual spotless state. Their home featured a flat roof with access from the second floor. Beverly loved to spend time on the roof enjoying a sunny day. After Burton retired, Beverly and Burton enjoyed traveling to see relatives in California and abroad. Together they visited Spain, Italy, Argentina and Israel. More often than not, Beverly and Burton could be found cheering on their grandchildren as Mara and Jack played competitive hockey and lacrosse and Zoe played basketball and softball. Mara and Jack were in the Maple Grove travel sports system, while Zoe was in the Wayzata system. Beverly and Burton owned both Maple Grove and Wayzata sweatshirts, often changing from one to the other as they attended multiple games in one day. Whenever possible, Beverly and Burton enjoyed spending time at the family cabin. Beverly will be fondly remembered by all who knew her for her huge heart, generous spirit and quick wit. Beverly is survived by husband, Burton Shacter; children, Lisa Swartz, Brian Shacter, and Julie Pearl (Bob); grandchildren, Mara Bussey (Ryan), Zoe Swartz and Jack Pearl; sister, Audrey Mogel (Alan); brother-in-law, Ron Shacter (Barbara); sister-in-law, Rosalyn Kloner; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents, Irving and Stella Schneider; and grandson, Justin Shacter. The family wishes to thank Beverly's home caregivers, Struther's Parkinson's Center, Dr. Elliot Johnson, and Park Nicollet Hospice Care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Park Nicollet Foundation (Designation drop menu please choose: Struther's Parkinson's Center Program Fund) Funeral Service 11:00 am, MONDAY, January 15th, HODROFF-EPSTEIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 126 E.
