Beverly Jean McConnell Sievert, Willard, MO
Beverly Jean (McConnell) Sievert, 91, beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on May 25, 2025, after a short illness. Beverly was born on October 3, 1933, in Kansas City, Missouri, the second of four children born to Lela Irene Canada and William Edward McConnell.
Beverly and Clifford Troy Sievert met in Springfield, Missouri, in the early 1950s. Clifford and his brother, Carl, rented a room in a boarding house, run by Beverly's mother, Lela Irene McConnell. Clifford worked in Springfield as an upholsterer in a furniture factory, while Beverly cleaned rooms and cooked meals in the boarding house.
Clifford enjoyed Beverly and her cooking, and soon a romance began. In 1953, Clifford was inducted into the 101st Airborne Division at Camp Breckenridge in Kentucky, followed the next year by Combat Training Command. Though the Army had separated the couple, the romance continued through love letters.
When Clifford left the Army, in 1955, the couple soon found a justice of the peace, and they were married on July 3 in Omaha, Nebraska. Their first home was a small trailer. Beverly worked at Tip Top Factory, which produced hair products (bobby pins and curlers) and plastic baby rattles. That fall, Beverly was thrilled to discover she was pregnant with her first daughter, Debra. She arrived on June 24, 1956. A few years later came Linda Jean and Sandra Lynn.
While Beverly was a skilled cook, she was also a talented seamstress, who sewed and tailored clothes for herself and her daughters.
In 1967, Clifford, who had worked as an upholsterer at Edward Keith Interiors, in Kansas City, opened his own business, Sievert Upholstery, in Lee's Summit. Beverly, with her seamstress skills, joined Clifford in the upholstery and antique furniture restoration business. Beverly and Clifford kept the business going for forty-three years (the last thirty years in Wasola).
Beverly is survived by her three daughters: Debra Hagan, Pittsfield, MA; Linda Haynes, Springfield, MO; and Sandra Colson, Springfield, MO. In addition, Beverly has four grandchildren: Evelyn Hagan, Boston MA.; Kyle Hagan, Scranton, PA; Liz Altic, Willard, MO; and Shaun Colson, Willard, MO. Beverly also has one great-granddaughter, Gabriella Norris, Willard. MO.
Beverly's husband of 65 years, Clifford Troy Sievert, preceded her in death on July 26, 2021.
