BILJANA (SAROVICH) HEDLUND
November 1960 - September 2024
Born November 17, 1960 to parents Petar and Vasa Sarovich (Swat's first cousin) in Sarajevo. Our Deda, Mitar was brother to her Deda Lazar. Biljana attended the University of Belgrade in a Law program. Our parents sponsored her to come to America after her parents approved Swat's invitation. She was guided by our sister Laura (Leposava) who showed her the ropes the American way. Biljana and Laura traveled to visit the former Yugoslavia and had great adventures and stories to share with the Sarovich Clan there. Biljana was tasked with caretaking for Olga Sarovich in her aged days at Mitar and Olga's home at 3036 N. Levitt Street. She comforted Baba's passing. Soon thereafter she met her partner Mica Cirkovic a star musician from Belgrade. With that she befriended his son Dejan and his then wife Dijana who to this day stayed her true and closest friend. Biljana was adored by Dijana's and Miro's children, Alex, Elena and Mirko who called her Baka, an affectionate term for Baba. Biljana became a popular and favorite waitress and manager for several Serbian venues in Chicagoland, including; Vito's, Skadarlia, BOEM, Sandy's, and her favorite Simplon (Orient Express) among others making forever long friendships. Also, Biljana was a beloved nanny and home caretaker for two Jewish families in Skokie and was endeared to their children who speak fondly of her. Biljana battled pancreatic cancer and put up a fight for over a year and a half. Unfortunately she got tired. She will be greatly missed by her Sarovich family and long time friends she got to call family. Visitation Thursday, September 26, 2024 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Muzyka & Son Funeral Home, 5776 W. Lawrence Ave., with Pomen (Wake Service) 7 p.m. Interment will take place in Bosnia i Herzegovina. For more information, please call (773) 545-3800.
