Billie Lea Desbien, 73, of Lamar, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
Billie was born in Logan, Kansas, to William and Virginia (Sherling) Hooper. She grew up in Bogue, Kansas, where she graduated from high school before attending Colby Community Junior College. There, she studied to become a secretary, beginning a career that reflected her dedication, professionalism, and care for others.
She worked for many years as a real estate agent with Century 21 Realtors and later joined Blaser Insurance Company, where she remained until her retirement.
Billie met the love of her life, Stephen Desbien, when she was a freshman in high school. They married in Damar, Kansas, in 1971 and celebrated 54 wonderful years together.
A devoted community member, Billie was an active member of the Eagles Auxiliary, where she proudly served as president for four years. She especially loved organizing the annual Easter Egg Hunt and other community projects that brought joy to families and friends.
At home, Billie found happiness in her garden—raising okra and other vegetables, and her beautiful marigolds. Her closest friends lovingly called her “Wood,” a nickname she had since high school.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents, William and Virginia Hooper, and sisters, Linda Chase and Suzie Rome.
She is survived by her husband, Stephen Desbien of the home; her children, Stephanie Wright of Lockwood, Missouri, and Matthew Desbien and wife Mandi of Clinton, Missouri; her grandchildren, Kortni Brooks, Baylee Wright, Mya Desbien, Matleigh Wright, Sydnei Desbien, and Blake Desbien; and great-grandsons, Cylas Cackley and Knoxyn Todd. She also leaves behind her brother, Bryce Hooper, and his wife Suzzanne of Roy, Washington.
Billie will be remembered for her kindness, humor, and unwavering love for her family and community.
Her family invites you to join them at Konantz Warden Funeral Home starting at 3:00 pm on Saturday October 25, 2025, for an informal gathering to celebrate her and visit with her family. Come prepared to step up to the microphone and share your favorite story about Billie.
