Ms. Billie Jo Smiling was born May 14th, 1974, to the late Virnell and Liza Smiling. Billie Jo completed her journey of 49 years on February 29, 2024, at the Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers: Mr. Tony Lee and Paul Smiling.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories: one son, Victor Lee Kerns of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and one daughter: Liza Jo Summerlin of Maxton. One grandson: Landen Kerns, one brother: Nathan Smiling of Louisiana, six sisters: Krecia Ann Brayboy (Charles) of Maxton, Tabitha Smiling of Maxton, Jeanette Bryant of Maxton, Kimberly Kay Locklear (Benny) of Maxton, Jane Chavis (Michael) of Maxton, and Anita Locklear of Rowland with a host of nieces and nephews.
Billie Jo was known for her feisty personality and spirit. Bill's sisters once described her as a "pistol," and a "stick of dynamite". Bill valued having nice things in life such as clothing, vehicles, and personal items. Ultimately, her greatest possessions in life were her children.
