Billy Arends

Billy Joe Arends, 96, of University Place, WA, passed away on August 27, 2025. He was born January 20, 1929, in Independence, MO, where he later met and married his wife of 78 years, Jacque.

Billy proudly served in the U.S. Navy (1946–47) and the U.S. Coast Guard (1948–50). He owned and operated Billy Joe Arends Independent Insurance from 1966 to 1989. A member of the American Legion, a Mason and an active community member, he served with the Kiwanis, Shriners Hospital, Boys Club, and many local boards. He was also a devoted member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Jacque; children, David Jack Arends (Nona, deceased), Beverly Jill Foster and Vashti Merritt (Joe); 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and sister Pat Arends of Independence, MO. He was preceded in death by his son, Billy Kurt Arends, grandson, Zachariah Arends, brothers, David "Corkey" and Donald Arends; sister Penny Dykal, and daughter-in-law Nona Arends.

Billy will be remembered for his love of community and faith. As he often said, "I loves ya and I likes ya."
