Billy Burnett Brackett Sr.

Billy Burnett Brackett Sr. age 86, of Hoopers Creek, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026.

Bill was born on January 21, 1940, in Fletcher, North Carolina, to the late Willie and Lillie Brackett.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Evelyn Joyce Brackett and Martha Jane Crittenden Brackett; and his siblings, Jim Brackett, Leon "Dick" Brackett, Juanita "Tooter" Fowler, and Pauline Poley.

Bill is survived by his children: Billy Brackett Jr. and wife Margie; Wilma Brackett Baldwin; Dirk Brackett and wife Carrie; and Rebecca Brackett. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Logan Brackett, Caramon Baldwin, Tanis Baldwin, and Jade Baldwin.

In addition to his children and grandchildren, he was blessed with four great-grandchildren, Ezra Baldwin, Elias Schnoor, Grant Baldwin and Levi Schnoor.

He leaves behind his loving sisters, Thelma Martin and Sue Mathis Jackson.

Bill dedicated many years of his life as a supervisor in the handcrafted rug industry, with his work reaching homes all over the world. He also faithfully served as a pastor for over 65 years, including Bible 2001 in Dana for 25 years, and Barnwell Baptist Church in Gerton.

A gifted musician, Bill was a bluegrass and gospel singer, songwriter, and performer. Throughout his life, he had the opportunity to open shows for Bill Monroe and many others.

Bill found great joy in simple things-caring for his chickens and spending time with his beloved dog, Dixie. More than anything, he had a heart for people. He devoted his life to serving God and leading others to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA).

A funeral service will be held at Hoopers Creek Baptist Church on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at 3:00pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A graveside will be held at Barnwell Baptist Church Cemetery after the funeral service.

Following the service, all are welcome to make or bring their favorite potluck meal to the fellowship building at Hoopers Creek Baptist Church to share with family after the graveside service.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
