Billy Jack "Bill" Brewster, 78, of
Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on January 16, 2026.
Bill was born on June 8, 1947, to Herman Samuel "Kiss" Brewster and Myrtle Mary Wright Brewster and grew up in Hollywood, Alabama. Growing up the only child on a small farm, he learned the values of hard work, service, and faith that would guide him throughout his life.
Bill enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 21 to serve his country during the Vietnam War, an experience that shaped his deep sense of duty and commitment to service. Following his military service, he dedicated his career to public service, serving as a longtime federal employee. He spent the last 20 years of his career at NASA, he was Chief Learning Officer at Marshall Space Flight Center and moved to Washington, D.C. to serve as Director, Business Management Services Division, until his retirement. Bill was respected for his work ethic and steady presence.
Above all else, Bill was deeply devoted to his family. He poured himself into caring for those he loved, showing up, providing support, and offering steady encouragement in both big moments and everyday life. Bill adored his wife, Joyce, and considered her his greatest gift from God. As a father and a grandfather, he gave generously of his time, attention, and heart. He delighted in nurturing, spoiling, and loving his children and grandchildren, and his ability to care for others was one of his greatest gifts. The love and support he gave so freely will remain one of his most lasting legacies.
He was a devoted Christian and member of Willowbrook Baptist Church, where his faith and fellowship were an important part of his daily life. He served as an active deacon, volunteered with the Keenagers committee and WillowBrook Kids, and sang in the choir. He enjoyed his time in Bible Study Fellowship. He was social, outgoing, and someone who made others feel welcome wherever he went. His caring nature extended into the community through his volunteer work at the Manna House through Willowbrook's mission team.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Kiss and Myrtle Brewster, and son, Brett Brewster. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Joyce Brewster. He is also survived by his son Max Brewster; his daughter, LeeAnn Wright (Brad); his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Brewster Cummings (Clay); and his four grandchildren, Wheeler Brewster, Everett Brewster, Paige Wright, and Grace Wright, all of whom knew him lovingly as "PaPaw."
To those who knew him, Bill will be remembered for his steady character, faithful heart, and lifelong dedication to family, faith, and service.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at Willowbrook Baptist Church. The service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mark Smith officiating.
