Billy Joe Brooks

The funeral service for Billy Joe Brooks, 78, of Anniston, Alabama will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs, with Chaplain Clint Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the service time at the funeral home. Mr. Brooks passed away at his home on Sunday, January 11, 2026.
Billy was an award-winning Legends Tribute Artist from Tupelo, MS, with shows previously booked throughout the Southeastern United States, including Central Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, and the Georgia Mountain Fair in Hiawassee. Growing up in Morristown, TN, he was a very talented entertainer who performed a vast array of music. He was even known for a time by the stage name "Mr. Songman." He began his singing career while still in elementary school and became well-known throughout the Southeastern United States, as well as the Rio Grande Valley area of Texas. Billy loved gospel music and began singing in churches, organizations, and nursing homes.
Survivors include his wife of sixteen years, Wanda Turner Brooks; stepson, Barry Harrington (Tonya); several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Ann Turner; sister-in-law, Lois Brooks; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clure and Lolita Brooks; and siblings, Willard Fred Brooks, Carl Wayne Brooks, Shirley Jean Crum, and Evelyn Darlene Thomas.
Pallbearers will be Barry Harrington, Jason Harrington, Sam Counts, Al Turner, Mitchell Turner, and Dennis Turner.
The family will receive flowers but also welcomes donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
