Billy James Buice, 83, traveled peacefully to his eternal home on January 13, 2026, at his home in Waleska, Georgia. Billy was born on August 31, 1942, to Edwin and Mary Lee Buice in the (then) rural community of Birmingham in Fulton County. He grew up farming with his grandfather, Horace Simms, and collecting all types of animals, ranging from wild foxes, flying squirrels, and monkeys. He fell in love with and married the first girl he asked on a date, Patrica (Teems) of Roswell, Georgia, shortly after high school and began working as a carpenter, cabinet maker, and later a tool and pattern maker.
In 1965, Billy enlisted in the United States Navy, where he became a Combat SeeBee, later serving with distinction in the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge from service, he continued working as a carpenter and cabinet maker. In 1981, Billy moved to Cherokee County with his wife and two sons to the farm where he would eventually pass. Later in his life, Billy cared for both his ailing sister and wife for many years until he was no longer physically able. Always quick with a smile and a cantankerous wit, Billy was revered by all who met him with both love and admiration.
Billy was a nationally renowned craftsman, most notably for his handcrafted turkey calls, which are prized by collectors and have garnered him numerous awards, including a recent induction into the National Wild Turkey Federation Callmaker Hall of Fame. A devout Christian and former deacon of Refuge Baptist Church in Jasper, Georgia, Billy is survived by his wife Patricia, his sister Brenda, his sons James and Joseph (Tiffany), as well as three grandchildren, Grant, Hayden, and Elijah.
