Billy Charles Nedry, known as Bill to his loved ones and friends and Paw Paw to his grandchildren, lived a life that was as vibrant and spirited as the revving engines of the off-road motorcycles he so cherished. Born on February 26, 1936, in Fort Worth, Texas, Bill's journey through life was one marked by courage, service, and commitment to family. On June 13, 2025, at the age of 89, Bill passed away of natural causes in
Corpus Christi, Texas.
Bill's story is one of a true Texan, whose roots ran as deep as his love for the state. A graduate of WB Ray High School, he carried the lessons learned in his childhood throughout his life. His dedication to his country was evident when he honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. Upon returning home, he continued his legacy of service as a firefighter with the Corpus Christi Fire Department, from which he retired in 1991 after a distinguished career.
A Christian by faith, Bill's life in his latter years was a testament to God's way of bringing one to faith through hardship. Bill was the proud father of his son Brett Nedry, his late daughter Marlene Nedry and daughter Darlene Cox. His son in law Patrick Cox (Darlene's husband) whom Bill loved deeply, also preceded him in death. Daughter in law Maria Nedry was very much involved in his life in his latter years and she was also loved greatly.
His role as a grandfather to Crysta Nedry, Santos Suarez IV, Brody Suarez, Tashunka Suarez, Travis Cox, Brandon Cox, and Brylie Suarez brought him joy. And the birth of his great-grandsons, Joaquin Valor Fentanes IV and Calian Vonn Fentanes, added a sparkle to his wise eyes. It was a blessing that Bill, for a short time, got to witness his grandson-in-law Joaquin Fentanes III be a father to his great grandsons, Valor and Calian. Bill is also survived by Merrilyn Stamps, his former wife and mother to his children and Shirley Montgomery, his former wife.
Bill's zest for life was infectious. His interests in off-road motorcycles and motocross racing were not just hobbies but passions that he pursued with the same fervor with which he lived each day. He was a man who believed in the thrill of the ride and the joy of the journey. His beautiful property in Pipe Creek, Texas, was his sanctuary, where he spent countless hours working, playing, and making memories with his loved ones.
To know Bill was to know a man who never backed down from a challenge. He was a force in the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His stories, filled with wisdom and sometimes humor, will be retold and cherished for generations to come.
As we celebrate the life of Billy Charles Nedry, we acknowledge a man whose work ethic drove his spirit. His life was a reminder that hard work and love of country can lead you to fulfilling your dreams. And most importantly, his facing hardship led him to accept and rest in peace with God. Bill's legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched, and his light will continue to guide us as we navigate the paths of our own lives.
Rest in peace, Bill. Your journey was a ride well taken, and your story, one well told. Your life was a testament to the power of living fully, loving deeply, and leaving behind a story for others to tell.
