Billy Ray "Mudd Flap" Couch, a cherished coal truck driver for over 40 years, passed away on October 24, 2025, in Lexington, Kentucky, at the age of 65. Born on December 3, 1959, in Hyden, Kentucky, Billy Ray became known for his devoted work ethic and unwavering dedication to his family and friends.
During his life, Billy Ray found immense joy in a variety of hobbies, particularly fishing, hunting arrowheads, and collecting Indian relics. The companionship of his beloved dogs, Harley and Piper, brought him much happiness, as he treasured the time spent with them. Above all, Billy Ray enjoyed creating lasting memories with his family, sharing laughter and love in every gathering.
He is survived by his son, James "Joe Bob" Kenneth Couch of London, Kentucky, and his daughter, Billie Sizemore, who is married to Dustin Wayne and resides in Hyden, Kentucky. His memory will also be cherished by his companion, Gina Melton, and his sister, Donna Jones, along with her husband, Terry, of Bear Branch, Kentucky. Billy Ray's legacy is further carried on by his two grandchildren, Kennedy and Gunner, who will remember him fondly. He is also remembered by his special friends, Kenneth "Streaker" Jones & Annette and Rachel and Joey Caldwell.
Billy Ray was proud to be affiliated with the Couch's Fork Church of God in Bear Branch, Kentucky, a community that provided him solace and connection throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Holt and Maultie Couch; his sister, Judy Spurlock; his son, Freddie Scott Couch; and his grandparents, Eliza and Willie Couch, and Coonie and Stella Couch. The contributions of Billy Ray "Mudd Flap" Couch to the lives of those who knew him will forever be honored and remembered.
Funeral Services: 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at the Rockhouse Pentecostal Church with Rev. Teddy Couch, Rev. Wayne Bowling and Ethan Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in the Couch's Fork Cemetery at Bear Branch, KY.
Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025 at the Rockhouse Pentecostal Church ay Hyden, KY
The following will serve as pallbearers: Eddie "Toot" Couch, Terry Dean Jones, Joey Caldwell, Glenn Gilbert, Ronnie Sizemore, Mike "Hot Dog" Pruit, Dustin Wayne Sizemore.
