New Iberia – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, for Billy Ray Johnson, who passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023.
Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home and will continue Thursday from 8:00 am until 9:30 am.
A rosary, led by the Men’s Rosary Group, will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, at Pellerin Funeral Home.
A longtime resident of New Iberia, Mr. Johnson was born on December 30, 1947, in Crowley, to the late Claude and Hermina Tauzin Johnson. Having the “Gift of Gab”, he worked in oilfield sales most of his life. Billy Ray never met a stranger and was always willing to help others. An avid car enthusiast, he loved collecting vintage cars and drag racing.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth Leleux Johnson; children, Beth Boughton (Tiger), Jude Johnson (Jill) and Jeremy Johnson (Nicole); grandchildren, Braylyn Rush (Jonathan), Ashlyn Boughton, Hannah Johnson, Evan Johnson, and Madison Johnson; great grandchildren, Drew Rush, Stetson Boughton, and Colson Guidry; and a sister, Eva Romero (Charles).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by great grandsons, Coy Percle and Issac Bouchereau; and siblings, Cynthia Broussard, Richard Vincent, Claude D. Johnson, Jr., Mathilda Borel, Ruth Hebert, Wade Vincent and Wesley Vincent.
Pallbearers will be Jude Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, Evan Johnson, Tiger Boughton, Chuck Romero and Hagie Romeo.
Honorary pallbearers include Charles Romero, Keith Hebert and Daryl Leleux.
In honor of Billy Ray, please drive your vintage car in the funeral procession.
