Billy Charles Sockey, 83, of Haileyville, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at a local nursing home.
Billy was born on July 12, 1939 in Talihina, Oklahoma to Emmitt and Rena Mae (Page) Sockey. He attended public school until the age of 12 and then attended Indian schools at Seneca and Chilocco. He served in the United States Navy from August 1957 to October 1960 and was married to his wife Mary for 55 years. He retired from the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool, painting pictures and doing odd jobs in his shop.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary Sockey; two daughters, Jeanette and Joe Dority and Tina Sockey; three step-sons he loved as his own, Rodney Luker, Billy B. Sockey and Charles Eugene Sockey; grandchildren, Shavonne, Autumn, Tzaine, Karrigan, Ean, Nikki and Ashton; six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lavada Kitchell, Linda Livingston, Shirley Lee Reynolds and Patricia Carshall; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Jack Cooper; son, Gary Dean Sockey; brothers, Homer Sockey and Preston Davis; sisters, Virginia Sockey, Leona Sockey, Joyce Sockey and Neoma Ruth Thomason.
Family visitation will be on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in Hartshorne. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the United States Navy.
