Billy Harold Wheatley, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather gained his heavenly reward July 27, 2024 at his home in Maypearl surrounded by friends and family.
Bill was born June 16, 1939 in Ennis, Texas to Buck (L.H.) and Viola Wheatley of Buena Vista. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Teddy and her husband Tony Carpenter. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Linda Wheatley, son Michael and wife Annett Wheatley of Maypearl, son Bradley and wife Sheri Wheatley of Springtown, daughter Dana and husband Danny Pearson of Maypearl, daughter Kathy Chesser of Maypearl, sister Brenda and her husband Ronald Appleton of Waxahachie, 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Bill grew up on a farm near Buena Vista and graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1958. He earned his FFA Lone Star Farmer Degree in 1956. He served in the National Guard and U.S. Army from 1956 until being honorably discharged in 1968 with the rank of Sergeant. Bill graduated from Sunset Church of Christ School of Preaching in 1965 and received his Bachelor and Doctorate Degrees in Ministry from Theological University of America. He was qualified as a Certified Satellite School Administrator in 1993 by the Sunset International Bible Institute. Bill served as a Church of Christ pulpit minister from 1965 until 1987 for congregations in Dimmitt, Ft. Worth, Keller, Eastland, Corbyn and Osceola. In addition he and Linda served as house parents for Christ Havens Children’s Home and Sunny Glenn Children’s Home. He began a truck driving career that spanned from 1973 until his retirement in 2015. For many years Bill faithfully served as an Elder for Maypearl Church of Christ and was involved in prison ministry for many years, receiving a Certificate of Appreciation from CCA Venus.
Bill and Linda enjoyed camping and fishing at the lake in their RV. Bill was an avid domino and Canasta player. They have been faithful members of Maypearl Church of Christ since 1973 and enjoy participating in all the gatherings and activities at the church. Their favorite activity is spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Bryson Wheatley, Joshua Pearson, Samuel Pearson, Matthew Pearson, Bradley Richardson and Ryan Nickels. Honorary Pallbearers include Jordyn Chesser, Troy Cooksey, O.J. Todd and Justin Pillow.
Family visitation will be Wednesday, July 31, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Wayne Boze Funeral Home, 1826 U.S 287 Business Waxahachie Texas, 75165. Services will be held Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Maypearl Church of Christ, 6091 FM 66 Maypearl, Texas. Graveside service and internment will follow immediately at the Maypearl Cemetery located on FM 157.
In lieu of flowers it is requested to that a memorial be made to the Solar Radio Mission Ministry sponsored by Sunset International Bible Institute 3723 34th St. Lubbock, Texas 79410.
