Blair Alan Bower
4-19-1952 – 3-2-2024
Blair passed on Saturday, March 2, 2024 after a short but fierce battle to recover from a sudden cardiac event. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Christine Lamantia Bower; by his sons, Travis (Jennifer) Bower and Trent (Sarah Roberson) Bower; the joy of his life, his granddaughters, Rose and Violet; and his sister Barbara Bower Griffiths of St. Clairsville. He was preceded in death by his parents, George R. Bower and Leona Anderson Bower, and his sisters Bonita McClure, Beatrice Strouse, and Beverly Giauque.
Blair graduated from The Ohio State University with B.S. in Animal Science (1974), and afterwards, he worked in agricultural lending and as a self-employed farmer, operating a beef and dairy farm and custom hay baling with one of the first large round balers in the county. A firm believer in justice and the rule of law, in 1989, he graduated from the very first class of Regent University Law School in Virginia Beach and then returned to Millersburg and opened Bower Law Office. There, he practiced law and served the community until his passing.
Blair's life was defined by his deep love for his community, his family, and for his Savior, Jesus Christ. He led his family by the grace of God with wisdom and love. Zion Reformed Church in Winesburg has been his church family for the last three years, and before that he served for 20 years as an elder at Berlin Christian Fellowship.
Always wanting to give back to the community he loved so much, over the years Blair served as solicitor for Nashville, Holmesville, and Shreve. His love for his fellow man led him to serve with the Holmes County Board of Developmental Disabilities, local Hospice efforts, and even took him overseas to Guatemala and Kenya, volunteering with The Reckoning International. He was also active in local politics, serving on the republican central committee and the Holmes County Board of elections.
His love for his farming roots never wavered, from his continual stewardship of the land he purchased from his parents, to his work in agricultural lending, all the way to his participation and avid support of 4-H and the Holmes County Fair. Even if he couldn't make it in person, he would send someone to bid for him to make sure he always supported local youth in the livestock auctions. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the "Holmes County 4-H Committee" and mailed to the local extension office at: 111 E Jackson St, Millersburg, OH 44654
Blair was a patient and forgiving man who listened before speaking, was known for his generosity and often selfless sense of duty, and whose steadfast faith guided nearly every action and decision he made. He will be missed beyond measure. Calling hours will be held this Friday, March 8th from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm and on Saturday at 10am, directly before his funeral service at 11am. All services are being held at St. John Evangelical Covenant Church in Millersburg.
