Obituary published on Legacy.com by Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Service on Apr. 2, 2025.
Blake was "that kid". He had the most tender hearted, loving spirit about him from the day he was born. He LOVED his family large. He had a special connection with his big sis; He loved her with his whole being right from the start and he stayed steadfast to her even through all the times she terrorized him when they were little kids. Although he would probably not admit to it out loud, he loved to watch her dance for all those years, and he was more than happy to let her have the spotlight (he NEVER wanted the spotlight). He was never so proud as the day he stood up as the Best Man for her on her wedding day. The look of pride in his eyes on that day was truly amazing! They have a sibling love that was incredible. To be able to watch it grow and flourish over the years made this mama's heart full.
His other true love was Gus (Gustavo, Gussy boy) his dog, his buddy, his best friend, his ride or die. They had the ultimate bond that could not be broken. Gus went everywhere and did everything with him, from snuggles on the couch, to happy greetings after a long day at work, to sleeping on Blake's head at night, hiking, kayaking, road trips, bike rides, segway runs or long walks it didn't matter the activity, Gus was Blake's world. He was even working on teaching Gus how to ride the segway so they could scoot around Nashville together. Although Gussy is heartbroken by the loss, we will surround him with Love here in MI, living the rest of his life with his brother and sister.
Blake was the one to embrace the new kid in 1st grade who was so nervous he ran to the bathroom to "return his breakfast", of course Blake followed and was right there to comfort and then introduce him to all his buddies in class. They grew to be a very tight bunch of friends thru the years.
During his high school years, he found the most pleasure in the simple moments; game night as a family, going to the cabin in Canada with his Dad, Gpa and best buddy, shopping with Nana, hanging out with his cousins at family gatherings, spending time with his friends skateboarding, playing disc golf, hiking, camping, climbing or just hanging out at the beach watching day turn to night but mostly he LOVED to snowboard. Over the years he met so many with the same passion and loved to tell us all his stories about his adventures while snowboarding with friends! He was truly addicted to this sport – when ask what he wanted for Christmas it was ALWAYS some sort of gear for snowboarding!
After high school, he worked a wide variety of jobs like car wash attendant, to lawn care and car sales but he found his true calling when he made the move to Nashville TN, where he found his niche with Cartronics. He was always sharing stories, videos and text on the family chat about what fancy car or boat was his next project at work or where the next car show was. He was so proud of his co-workers and the videos that got them recognized with a trip to Las Vegas for an awards ceremony. One of his favorite "tasks" at work was to walk around sharing the box of warm cookies that would randomly be sent by Nana just to brighten his day!
Blake LOVED BIG in everything he did and in everyone he met. He had a way of always seeing the bright side of life despite any obstacle's life thru his way. He lived his life with great joy, passion and laughter. He would light up every room he walked into. His smile was absolutely infectious. He had the gift of making others feel welcome in his presence. People were naturally drawn to his contagious laughter, he was the goofball, always playing pranks on people, cracking jokes and keeping any situation light-hearted. He would connect various groups of people together and then sit and watch the newfound friendships flourish. He was the one to give the shirt (or winter jacket) off his back to anyone who needed it. His unconditional positive regard for others as well as his gentle and kind-hearted nature will be greatly missed by all. May you always feel Blake's gentle spirit and find comfort in sharing his stories and memories over a beer at a bar in Nashville, on beach at sunset in Michigan, over a campfire in your backyard, during camping trip in the wilderness or on the top of a snowy mountain looking down the tip of a snowboard. May his warm memories burn brightly in your hearts forever.
As a family we rest easy in knowing that Blake was a believer and that he is now wrapped in the arms and love of the Lord in heaven with those that went ahead to prepare a path for him. This is not "goodbye" but instead, "see you later bud"!
John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
