Blakie Thompson (Blake) was born on October 5, 1931 in Jay, Oklahoma. He passed from this earthly home on April 5, 2025 at the age of 93 to go meet his Heavenly Father. Blake had fought numerous illnesses over the past decades, but continued to fight until the pain of the last few months was more than any of us wanted for him. He died at home with his family.
Blake is survived by his wife of almost 72 years, Jewel of Glenpool, his daughter Regina Caves of Jenks, son Verlen Thompson (wife Tonda) of Broken Arrow, grandson Brian Franco (wife Jenifer) of Tulsa, grandson Travis Caves (wife Mae) of Tulsa, Granddaughter Kaci Caves of Jenks, Granddaughter Kayla Secrist (husband Jaret) of Owasso. Blake had 4 great grandchildren- Lauren Price (husband Andrew), Ali Franco, Evan Franco and Paige Caves and one great great granddaughter Olivia Price. Blake has one surviving sibling, Wilma Cargil (husband Jim) of Inola. There are numerous nieces and nephews that were always so close to their Uncle Blake which will leave a big loss in their lives.
Blake was preceded in death by his parents-Lee Thompson and Cora (Earp) Thompson. Two brothers Wayne Thompson and Wade Thompson. Three sisters Jewel Thompson, Aline Wortham and Sue Herberger. Also his son-in-law Wes Caves.
After graduation from Colcord High School, Blake joined the United States Navy in 1951. Blake was stationed in SanDiego, California. Blake fought in the Korean War. He was aboard the USS LST 715. He was awarded several honors while in service. While serving in the Navy, he married his high school sweetheart, Jewel Brewer in 1953. One weekend before he shipped out for Korea they ran o to Reno, Nevada to tie the knot. They loaded up and left the navy in 1955 with a new daughter to head back to Oklahoma. They lived in Claremore, Oklahoma for a short while near his brother Wade and sister-in-law Edra. Those were some of the happiest memories for Blake and Jewel. Blake worked at a couple of dierent jobs and then when they moved to Tulsa, he took a job at Crane Carrier Corporation where he was a supervisor for many years. He ended his career at Byron Jackson where he took early retirement to enjoy the fruits of his many years of labor.
Blake loved his family, enjoyed watching OU football and OU girls softball and truly loved to garden. Oh, how his tomatoes will be missed and the stories of what was "putting on" in the garden each evening. He loved good home cooking and always wanted someone to come visit and enjoy that food (that Jewel prepared). He welcomed everyone with a smile and loved a good hug. He was a quiet man most of the time, but you could always enjoy a good visit at their home anytime.

April 8, 2025

Blake will be greatly missed, yet we are grateful that he has entered his forever home in the arms of Jesus, surrounded by abundant love, joy, peace and his family and friends. Blake is a joy to talk with, as he is an excellent listener. He offered love, guidance and a sound response. Blake was my "Oklahoma Dad" during my high school years away from my family after moving to California. My dad and Blake may well be comparing notes as they walk the streets of gold, awaiting our eventual reunion.
All my love,
Lee Ann
