Robert E. "Bob" Clark, age 91, of Chariton, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 18, 2024. A short service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 22nd with military honors being conducted at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. A celebration of life gathering will be held following the service until 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials in Bob's honor may be made to the Pin Oak Marsh.
Robert Eugene Clark was born June 8, 1933, at home on the east side of Chariton to Harold and Ina Bingaman Clark. Bob was the oldest son, and he welcomed his younger brother Larry six years later. He grew up in Chariton and graduated from Chariton High School with the Class of 1951. After high school he attended Parsons College in Fairfield where he met the love of his life, Marilyn Madsen. Their first date was attending a football game and dance at her high school in Fairfield. After completing college Bob was drafted into the United States Army and served in Korea from 1953 until 1955. While on leave he called home and asked Marilyn to marry him and to be ready when he got there, they were married January 16, 1955. The marriage was blessed with three children: Robert J. "Bobby", Christine, and Amy along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and 69 years of wonderful memories.
The couple made their home in Chariton and Bob worked for his dad in his auto repair garage and drove a school bus to get started. Bob then took a job with Metropolitan Life and sold insurance for many years. He later started Bluegrass Realty, he loved the people and connections he made selling real estate.
Bob loved life and lived it well. He was very active in his community and always believed in putting others before himself. This made him a great Rotarian; he was a long-term Rotarian and earned the Paul Harris Fellow award for his service to Rotary. Bob belonged to the Presbyterian Church since he was a child, and when he brought Marilyn home to Chariton for the first time, he took her to church and sang "Bless This House" for her. His deep faith was always evident as it guided him through life.
Bob will be remembered not only for his service to his community, but even more so for the love he showed to his family and friends. He would always greet you with a smile and would usually be whistling or singing a song. Bob knew how to have fun and enjoyed camping trips all over the country with family and friends. And one of his greatest pastimes was golf. He loved golf, even made a few holes in one, but he loved the friendships he made while golfing, one of those being Ken Lee. They loved golfing together, and that made the Arizona trips even more enjoyable, imagine what they talked about!
Bob passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 18, 2024.Bob was preceded in death by his parents: Harold and Ina Clark, and brother, Larry Clark.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 69 years, Marilyn Clark; children: Robert J. (Geralynn) Clark, Christine (Bryant) Clark Amos, and Amy Clark Jones; grandchildren: Katie (Jason) Peters, Emily (Nick) Iacobucci, Shannon (Ryan) Woods, Tracy (Steve) Clark, Joe Sienerth, Whitney (Jacob) Fort, Mallory Amos, Jeremy Jones, and Paige Jones; 8 great grandchildren; sister-in-laws: Janet Clark, and Jan (Truman) Friethum; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
