Bob Ennis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ponderosa Valley Funeral Services - Parker on Aug. 14, 2023.
Obituary of Bob Ennis
Retired Delta Airline Pilot, John Robert "Kluttz" Ennis (Bob), Age 68, of Parker, Colorado, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 13, 2023, in the arms of his loving wife.
Born at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida on January 26, 1955, Bob was preceded in death by his parents John and Jeanine Kluttz.
Bob graduated from the Air Academy High School and continued to the Air Force Academy where he proudly graduated with the class of 79 with a BS in Civil Engineering. The Academy was where his love of flying began so after graduating, he became a pilot for the Air Force flying the KC135 and KC10.
In 1987, Bob was hired as a pilot for Delta Airlines (his dream job). He flew various Delta airplanes as a Captain including the 757 and 767 for 33 years, retiring in 2020. During his Delta career, he continued to work for the Air Force reserves and retired after 35 years as a Lt. Colonel. Bob loved life and never met a stranger. He will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality.
Bob is survived by his spouse of 42 years, Laura; his 2 wonderful sons, Robert Zachary (wife Amber), Tyler John (girlfriend, Freddy); grandchildren Levi, Barrett (Freddys children, Kingsley, Klayton and Kliason). His brother Terry (girlfriend Melissa), niece Kirby, uncle Phil, Uncle Don and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, August 23, 2023, at the Air Force Academy Community Center Chapel (5134 Cathedral Dr. Air Force Academy, CO 80840). Buriel will follow at the Air Force Academy Cemetery with full military honors. Reception to follow at 3:00 PM at the Air Force Academy Eisenhower Golf Course. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Ponderosa Valley Funeral Home and the Mortuary office at the Air Force Academy.

Laura, I am so very sorry to hear about Bob's passing. I loved seeing you both at our reunion in July. He sent a lovely email telling me that he had had a great time and wanted to organize all of the Denver alums for dinner soon so that we could continue to reconnect. I will pick up that cause to organize our group and we will get together in Bob's honor. Bob's obituary describes him so well. I will always remember his smile, happiness and big hugs. You and your family are in my prayers.

My heartfelt condolences to Laura and all of Bob´s family. I got to know Bob at KC-135 school and then at Altus AFB for our first assignment. Later, we reconnected at Delta Air Lines. What a great guy. Always with a smile and a good word. We will all miss him. He has "slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings" one last time.
God speed Bob.

Dan R...USAFA79 and Delta colleague.

Please accept my sincere condolences. As Leonardo da Vinci said:
"When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you will always long to return." As a fellow classmate, he will be remembered for a positive attitude and the ability to persevere. Bob's time on this earth was way too short. Bob made a difference and he will be missed.

My condolences to the family. This hits me personally and quite hard. Bob was a great friend. I knew him from cadet years to now. What a great guy. In 2008 Bob was my sim instructor on the 767, what a breath of fresh air compared to others. In 2019 we had dinner in Narita Japan where we discussed each of our retirement plans and recently we discussed our shared post retirement experiences as sim instructors, Bob with Delta and myself with CAE. I will miss Bob he was always a friend I could talk with. God bless.
