Robert "Bob" L. Shammel, 93, passed away on January 20, 2023 in Lewistown, MT. Bob was born in Lewistown, Montana on October 14, 1929 to Lee and Elsie (Jenni) Shammel. They moved several times before settling on the Bleasdell Place. Bob went to the Beaver Creek School and graduated from Fergus County High School and joined the Montana National Guard.
On January 27, 1951 he married the true love of his life, Wilma "Billie" Watson. They helped work the ranch on Beaver Creek and remodeled the "Parsonage House" living by the old church on the Beaver Creek Y. They were joined by their son, Gary.
Around 1956 and 1957 electricity and gas came through the valley. The place was on the line which made it possible to get it to the house. Bob and Billie bought the Beaver Creek Ranch from his dad and lived on it until retirement. They raised sheep and yearling cattle while irrigating crops and hay. Bob and his family had many good times and fun. His friends often spoke of the midnight snowmobiling and other adventures. And there was the time he helped motorize a good friend's homemade boat. They installed a V-8 motor, got it to float and many good times were had.
Bob loved mechanics and spent many hours with numerous gas stations and businesses that did mechanics. He could fix most anything. He was well liked and always willing to help out his friends and family.
Bob is survived by his son, Gary Shammel of Portland, OR; step-grandchild, Fred Littke and his daughter, Ashley and her children, Kaden and Rosie of Portland; grandson, Deacon Shammel of Portland; grandson, Robert (Christiene) Shammel and their children, Nathan and Tiffany of Port Orchard, WA; sisters, Helen Bakker and Jeanette Moran; sister-in-laws, Holly Cox, Betty Watson, and Patty Thiel; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Billie Shammel; daughter-in-law, Carol Shammel; brother, Maurice Shammel; and sister, Marion Porter.
Viewing will be held at Creel Funeral Home, Wednesday, January 25th, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be at Creel Funeral Home on Thursday, January 26th, 1:00 p.m. with interment to follow at the Lewistown City Cemetery.
