Bobbie Jean Poe Oldham, 89 of Sanford passed away Friday September 19, 2025. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday (9/22/2025) at Cool Springs Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. The family will greet friends Monday starting at 10:00 am Monday.
Born in Lee Co, she was a daughter of the late Robert Poe and Lela Glass Poe. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Harold Reid Oldham Sr; siblings Jim Suggs, Monroe Suggs, Dorby Poe, WC “Peanut Poe, Eva Lehman, and Edna Wicker.
Bobbie Jean was a lifelong member of Cool Springs Baptist Church and sang in the Choir for many years. She graduated from Sanford Central High School and on Jan. 13, 1955 she married her high school sweetheart and bus driver, Reid Oldham. For many years she worked for Dr Worth Byrd, then at Federal Spinning and retired, at age 70, from Lee Co DSS as the receptionist and switchboard operator. She loved life, going on trips most anywhere, getting her hair fixed on Friday’s, family vacations to the beach, sending get well and thank you cards, all animals and her frequent trips to the Dairy Bar.
Mrs. Oldham is survived by her children, sons, Harold Reid Oldham Jr, Robert Oldham, and daughter, Polly Oldham Buchanan; two grandchildren, Casey Oldham and fiancé Paul Health and Jared C. Oldham (Jessilyn); great grandchildren, Elijah Oldham, Nyla Oldham, and Jaxton Oldham; many nieces and nephews and her special four legged furry friend “Chico”.
Memorial donations can be made to Cool Springs Baptist Church, 1313 Cool Springs Rd, Sanford, NC 27330; or to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
The family extends a special thank you to Amedisys Hospice, especially Robyn and Kia for their exceptional care.
