Bobby Deitch Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thurman Funeral Home - Norborne from Jul. 21 to Jul. 30, 2025.
Bobby Gene Deitch, 64, of Blue Springs, passed away Friday, July 18, 2025, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.

Bobby was born on July 23, 1960, in Carroll County, the son of John Gordon and Virginia Rose (Vantrump) Deitch, Jr. He was united in marriage to Sherri Eileen Coleman of Roscoe on October 23, 1983; they later divorced.

Survivors include: daughter, April Dawn Deitch (Matthew Ackerman) of Windsor; son, Aaron Ross Deitch of Wheatland; two grandchildren, Mackenzie Dawn Oaks and Jacen Bentley Oaks; brother, David Lee (Amy) Deitch of Norborne; two sisters, Jennifer (Jim) Lalumondier of Greenwood and Janet (Randy) Horine of Norborne; uncle, Jack (Glenda) Vantrump; several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bobby was raised and educated in the area of his birth and graduated with the Carrollton High School Class of 1978. He went on to attend Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, where he earned his bachelor's degree. Bobby began his public service career in 1978 with the Johnson County Sheriff's Office and the Johnson County Fire Department, where he served with dedication until 1994. That same year, he began his work with the federal government at the General Services Administration (GSA), a role he held with pride and commitment until his passing. A key highlight of his career was implementing Johnson County's first 911 system in 1989-an accomplishment that reflected his forward-thinking and dedication to community safety.

Bobby had a zest for life and a wide range of interests. He found joy in cooking and baking, mushroom and arrowhead hunting, fishing, and tending to his plants. A passionate fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, he never passed up an opportunity to attend a game, especially if it involved tailgating and striking up conversations with fellow fans. He had a gift for turning simple moments into cherished memories-whether it was taking his children to the park, flying kites, packing picnic lunches, or heading home for vanilla and chocolate swirl ice cream. Royals games were a family favorite, complete with a playful tradition of betting quarters on what the pitcher would do next-Bobby almost always came out the winner.

Above all, Bobby loved his family deeply and especially treasured time spent with his grandkids. His playful spirit, love of life, and unwavering devotion to those he cared for will be forever missed and fondly remembered.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of Norborne to the Kitchen Fund. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation with funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Thurman Funeral Home in Norborne, with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M., with services to follow at 11:00 A.M. Reverend Brent Hopkins to officiate. Burial will be in Fairhaven Cemetery, Norborne. Please remember to share your memories of Bobby with the family by visiting www.thurmanfuneralhome.com.

I am so sorry for your loss! I´ve always thought the world of Bobby both professionally & personally. He always had the best interest of the agency & the people he worked with first & foremost in his heart. He set high standards for the rest of us to emulate. I will miss his kind spirit and jovial personality so much!

Bobby was an amazing guy. Whoever wrote the obituary was spot on. He and I worked together at FPS. We met on a trip to Abu Dhabi and I will forever think of him as Abu Dhabi Bobby. May he rest in peace and may the family take comfort in knowing the amazing life he lived and all the people he touched.
