Bobby Ellis Obituary

Published by Legacy on May 6, 2025.
Bobby "Slim" Ellis, age 78, entered eternal rest on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at VA Community Living Center (CLC) in New Orleans, LA. He was born on December 14, 1946, to Marjorie Ellis and Bateman Golden. He was the loving husband of Cerena Ellis. Father of Katherine Magee (Duane) Evans, Bobby Magee, Senitra (Meco) Cooper, Keesha (Darrel) Broussard and Brittani Perry.
He was a native of Alexandria, LA and a resident of Harvey, LA. Bobby was a 1964 graduate of Peabody High School in Alexandria, LA. Bobby accepted Christ and was baptized at the age of 18 at Second Evergreen Baptist Church in Alexandria, LA by the late Rev. Samuel W. Pullen. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. When asked what branch of service he served in, he would ask "there was only one, right?" And then would say with a big smile "Once a Marine always a Marine. Semper Fi." He was employed with Regional Transit Authority (RTA) retiring after 33 years.
Bobby was devoted to his family and will be remembered for his generous heart, nurturing spirit, loving attitude and great sense of humor. We cannot forget his love for music. He loved all genres of music. He could quote every verse, sing every verse, and name the artist/group, year and soloist and background singers. He had a remarkable memory and was light on his feet and a very good dancer. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity and compassion that will continue to inspire all who loved him and all with whom he was associated.
Bobby is preceded in death by his parents, Marjorie Ellis and Bateman Golden; 4 brothers, Robert Williams, Joseph Smith, Jr., Gregory Smith and Don Smith; 3 sisters, Velma Smith, Jo Ann Craig, and Marilyn Smith; one niece and one nephew.
Bobby leaves his cherished memories to his loving and devoted wife, Cerena Ellis; son, Bobby Magee; 4 daughters, Katherine Magee Evans (Duane), Senitra Cooper (Meco), Keesha Broussard (Darrel), and Brittani Perry; 4 granddaughters, Shaundria Taylor, Kyla Evans, Kennedy Broussard, and Brooklynn Perry; 3 grandsons, Elijah Evans, Micah Cooper, and Bryce Hawkins; great granddaughter, Charm Harris; brother, Jimmy (Willa Dean) Golden of Lake Charles, LA; 3 sisters, Loadia Golden of Oakland, CA, Ira Mae Bell of Miami, FL, and Lisa Golden of Lake Charles, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Bobby will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
