Bobby Elmer Fugatt, 90, of Inverness, FL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at HPH Hospice Care in Lecanto, FL,
Bobby was born on February 21, 1934 in Chattanooga, TN to the late Noah Elmer (N.E.) & Lora Hazel (Hamlin) Fugatt. He was a graduate of Dade County High School where he excelled in football as a running back and held an unbroken record for many years serving on the first team at Dade County High. He loved sports, having played on the EPB baseball and bowling teams, coached little league baseball in East Ridge for many years, was a water sport enthusiast, but he loved golf most of all. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, employed by the EPB and owned his own trucking company before retiring to Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Bobby E. Fugatt, Jr., James Roger Fugatt, wife, Betty Ladd Thompson Fugatt, & step-daughter, Kim Thompson Patterson.
Survivors include his sister, Diane Fugatt Barnard of Wildwood, GA; brother, Jack Fugatt, Inverness, FL; daughter, Cathy Ann (Curtis) Harris, Franklin, TN; & son, Robert Blake (Missy) Fugatt, Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren, Mindy D. (Matt) Bryson, Smyrna, TN, Abby N. (Chris) Owen, Ooltewah, TN, Dr. Robert B. (Jacqueline) Fugatt, Jr., Charleston, SC, and Ali T. (Joseph) DeWild, Ringgold, GA; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Reagan & Aidan Bryson, Cameron & Parker Owen, Bella, Sage, & River Fugatt; nieces & nephews, Patti Fugatt Callaway, Shannon Barnard (Kevin) Van Dusen, & Kelly Barnard. The family wishes to thank his niece, Patti Callaway, for the wonderful care given during his illness.
A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with full military honors. Mr. Fugatt will be laid to rest in the Chattanooga National Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared at ryanfuneralhome.net.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour at Ryan Funeral Home & Crematory, Trenton, GA.
