Bobby W. Funderburk, a longtime resident of Mena, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on February 28, 1937, Bobby lived a full and vibrant life, marked by his dedication to his family, his country, and his faith.
Bobby proudly served in the military for 20 years and 3 days, a detail he often recounted with a playful grumble about the "extra" time. His service instilled in him a deep sense of patriotism and discipline that he carried throughout his life. After his military career, Bobby settled in Mena, where he became a beloved member of the community and a faithful attendee of Grace Bible Church.
A man of many passions, Bobby found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid golfer, always striving to perfect his swing, and could often be found on the greens with friends, sharing stories and laughter. He also found solace in the tranquility of fishing and the thrill of the hunt, embracing the beauty of the Arkansas outdoors. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious laughter, and his unwavering love for his family and friends. He enjoyed sharing stories of his adventures, both on the golf course and in the great outdoors.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Newt Funderburk and Armor "Coonie" Youmans; his son, Bobby Wyndell Funderburk II, his first wife, Margie Stacer, and his wife Jeri Funderburk. While their loss undoubtedly left a void in his life, Bobby's strength and resilience allowed him to cherish the memories he shared with them and continue to embrace life with unwavering optimism.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and will be deeply missed by his surviving family members. He is survived by his daughter, Shannon L. Young of Benton, AR and his son, Gregory W. Funderburk of Anacoco, LA, Diane Shultz of West Fork, AR, Michael Callahan of Hatfield AR, Stacy Pineda of Boone, NC, and Valerie Dykstra of Alberta Canada. He was also a beloved grandfather and great-grandfather to numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride. He cherished every moment spent with them, sharing his wisdom, his humor, and his unconditional love. His influence on their lives will undoubtedly continue to shape them for years to come.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena, Arkansas. The family invites all who knew and loved Bobby to join them in celebrating his life and sharing memories of this remarkable man.
