Bobby Joe Humphries
Bobby Joe Humphries, 90, widower of Eugenia Rebecca Blanton Humphries, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at his home.
Born April 23, 1934 in Spartanburg County, he was a son of the late John Humphries and Alta Mae Jolley Humphries. He was retired from Tex-Mach, and proudly served his community for 64 years with the Mayo Area Fire Department, where he was the former Fire Chief, member of the South Carolina Firefighters Association and was also a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Mayo.
Bobby Joe enjoyed camping, sitting on his front porch, landscaping, cutting grass, his Boston Terrier dogs and his Massey Fergerson Tractor. He was just an all-around hardworking man.
Surviving is his daughter, Libby Gurley and husband Mike of Cowpens; son, Billy Joe Humphries and wife Denise of Chesnee; grandchildren, Tracie Gurley of Mayo, Ashley Aughinbaugh and husband David of Chesnee, Christopher Humphries and wife Erika of Chesnee; great-grandchildren, Abby, Becca and Rowan
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a brother James “Dick” Humphries”.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Mayo. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Tyler Estes and Rev. Glenn Rusher officiating. Burial with full Firefighter Honors will follow in Springhill Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303 or Spartanburg Mobile Meals, PO Box 461 Spartanburg, SC 29304.
Family members are at the home of his daughter, 210 Ben Bonner Road, Cowpens, SC 29330
