Mike Gurley
Michael Gene “Worm” Gurley, 74, of Mayo, SC, loving husband of Libby Humphries Gurley, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at his home.
Born May 21, 1951, in Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late James N. Gurley and Betty Turner Gurley. He was employed with the South Carolina Forestry Commission as a forester, where he faithfully served for 22 years before retiring. He also worked with Tex Mach, Inc. both before and after his retirement.
He was a dedicated member of the Mayo Area Fire Department, beginning his service at just 16 years old, and remained committed until he began his career in forestry. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Mayo.
In addition to his wife of 47 years, he is survived by his daughter, Tracie Gurley of the home; his brother, Ronald Gurley of Mayo; two special young men he loved as grandsons, Tanner and Tucker Tolleson; along with several nieces and one nephew.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Mayo. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary, officiated by Reverend Glenn Rusher. Interment will follow in Springhill Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Spartanburg Regional Hospice team for their outstanding care, and a special thank you to Carrie Oxford and Charlene Gault.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Mayo, P.O. Box 37, Mayo, SC 29368, or Spartanburg Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 430, Drayton, SC 29333.
