Bobby Gene Lightsey
July 21, 1935 – May 16, 2025
Bobby Gene Lightsey, a man of immeasurable patience, strength and heart, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on July 21, 1935, in Camden, South Carolina, Bobby lived a full and meaningful life, one rich with family, laughter, a little mischief and an abundance of love.
A proud veteran, Bobby served nearly four years in the U.S. Army as a Private at Fort Hamilton in New York. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
On February 11, 1956, Bobby married the love of his life, Myrna Graham, at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament in the Bronx, New York. Together, they built a life filled with joy, raising five children who would go on to give them a legacy of love-11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. To each of them, he was more than just a patriarch-he was a steady hand, a partner-in-crime for sneaking sweets, and a source of unwavering support and love.
Bobby had a deep love for animals, especially dogs, and always had a four-legged friend nearby. His days were often spent watching westerns, especially those starring John Wayne. He was a lifelong fan of football and baseball-cheering on the Florida State Seminoles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays.
He was known for his dry humor, loving insults and slipping cookies into his shirt pocket when he thought no one was looking (everyone was). He adored his family, particularly his grandchildren, who brought endless light to his later years. His shed was his domain-no one touched his tools (though good luck finding the one you needed), and every object held a story.
Bobby had a sweet tooth he never quite outgrew and a fondness for using colorful language-always with just enough charm to get away with it or saying it just low enough that only the desired target was able to hear.
Through it all, Bobby remained the most patient man you'd ever meet. He had a way of making you feel heard, loved and safe. His presence was comforting, his devious smile infectious, and his wisdom a gift passed through generations.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, family and lessons that will carry on far beyond his time here. Though our hearts are heavy, we are comforted in knowing that Bobby lived his life exactly how he wanted-surrounded by family, full of love, a little sugar, and a whole lot of bad words.
Rest easy, Bobby. You were-and will always be-our hero, our rock, and our favorite cowboy.
