Bobby Reid Simmons, 80, passed away peacefully February 17, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Woodruff, South Carolina on March 7, 1944 to the late George and Edna Simmons. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, William Simmons, Marshall Simmons, Thomas Simmons, and Jean Hardin; great-grandson, Max; and his brother-in-law and best friend, Robert Brown.
Bobby was a veteran of the US Army and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working in his big vegetable garden. He also enjoyed playing with his bees. He was a dedicated member of Union Presbyterian Church in Gastonia. Most of all he loved spending time with his family who he leaves many happy memories to be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Martha Brown Simmons; son, Bobby Simmons Jr. (Lori); siblings, Jerry Simmons (Ann), Marie Adams (Bob), Rhonda Simmons; grandchildren, Kristen (Brandon), Dillon (Heather), Luke, Cassie, Zachary, Katie Grace; great-grandchildren, Colton, Noelle, Mason, Paisley, Jaclyn, and Remi.
Family and friends will gather for visitation from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at Union Presbyterian Church 5615 Union Road, Gastonia, North Carolina 28056. A funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor James Holeman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by the Gaston County Honor Guard and the US Army.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Union Presbyterian sign fund, 5615 Union Road, Gastonia, North Carolina 28056.
