Bobby Eugene Withers, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas. Born on January 13, 1933, in Ector, Texas, Bobby's spirit was as vast as the Texas sky, filled with love, dedication, and a tireless work ethic that inspired all who knew him.
Bobby devoted his life to his family and his passions. He took great joy in working with his hands, whether it was building things or tending to his beloved animals on the farm. His career as a truck driver was a source of pride for him, one he cherished until health concerns led him to retire. Bobby’s heart was immense, and it showed through his volunteer work at the local food bank, where he dedicated his time to serving those in need.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria, who stood by his side through all of life's seasons in Lubbock. He is also survived by four sons — Jerry Withers, Mike Withers, Steve Withers, and Freddy Don Withers, who is married to Delora Blackerby, all residing in Lubbock; as well as five daughters — Sandra Gonzales, married to Robby Denton, Debbie Gillis, Mildred Scott, Shirley Jones, married to Donnie, and Linda Turner, married to Bobby, all of whom call Lubbock home. Bobby’s legacy continues through his numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, each holding a piece of his heart.
In this moment of remembrance, we also honor those who have gone before him. Bobby was preceded in death by his first wife, Meldaween Cora Pribble; his second wife, Juanita Withers; a son, Jackie North; a daughter, Barbara Lester; three brothers, Johnny, Davis, and Paul Withers; and five sisters, Elsie, Emily, Vena Mae, Betty and Ruth. Their memories live on in the stories shared and the love passed down through generations.
The family would like to extend a very special thanks to the staff of Calvert Hospice and his care giver Cornetta Robertson for their everlasting care for Bobby and his family.
Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate Bobby’s remarkable life. A visitation will be held on May 4, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Broadway Funeral Directors, located at 1901 Broadway, Lubbock, TX 79401.
