Bobbye M. Nixon, aged 97, beloved mother, grandmother, close and caring friend to many, known for her quiet leadership, grace, and devotion to family, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 2, 2026, after a year of compromised physical health.
Born May 18, 1928, in
Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Bobbye was the daughter of George R. and Jewell Moore. She grew up attending Lakeside Elementary and Pine Bluff High School. Bobbye received an Associate Degree in Science from Arkansas A&M College in Monticello and was later employed as a laboratory technician at Jefferson Regional Medical Hospital.
On November 2, 1952, she married Lin E. "Buddy" Nixon at First Methodist Church in Pine Bluff and quickly became a cherished member of the larger Nixon family. Bobbye and Buddy also made lifelong friends there, spending many happy hours playing bridge, going to the lake, and traveling with special friends the Dunlaps, Matthews, McLellans, and Theises.
Mrs. Nixon was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Pine Bluff, helping on many church committees and teaching Sunday School. She served her community as a sustaining member of the Junior League of Pine Bluff, a member of the Bess Jenkins Club, and involvement in school PTA activities and as Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. She spent many years on the Committee of One Hundred supporting the Ozark Folk Center.
In fulfillment of a lifelong dream of Buddy Nixon, the Nixons spent a wonderful year living in Devon, England, from 1970-71. While their daughters attended St. Margaret's School, the couple delighted in visiting English villages and historic sites, making lifelong British friends, as well as entertaining visitors from Arkansas.
In 1995, the Nixons moved from Pine Bluff to Little Rock to be closer to their grandchildren. They enjoyed making new friends at Treetops Condominiums where they lived. They joined Pulaski Heights Presbyterian Church, where Bobbye served as a Ruling Elder of the Session. She maintained a close relationship with her pastor of many years, Reverend Ruskin Falls, and was sustained by his frequent visits when she could no longer attend church services.
Bobbye greatly enjoyed leading tours for twelve years as a docent at the Arkansas Arts Center. She had a special group of docent friends who enjoyed many happy lunches and remained close to her, celebrating her 97th birthday with a fun party.
Bobbye was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 56 years, and her three sisters: Katherine Moore, Amanda Koral, and Dorothy Weatherford. She leaves behind her daughters Amanda Nixon White and Martha Ann Nixon. Also surviving are four grandchildren, all in Little Rock: 1) Alfred Popkess White IV (Dr. Amy Hilliard) and their children Alfred P. "Quinn" White V and Annie Stokes White; 2) Samuel Mason White (Dr. Sophie Hollenberg) and their son Mason James White; 3) Miles Andrew Nixon McCullough (Ashlie Nguyen); and 4) Claire Amanda Nixon McCullough. She will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, and their respective families.
